Increasing economic prosperity in developing regions has opened up new and enticing dietary ingredient sourcing opportunities for dietary supplement manufactures. However, the regulatory requirements for food safety and quality can vary significantly throughout the world and especially within developing markets. This makes it increasingly difficult to ensure ingredients and food products meet food safety and quality requirements. It can also be challenging to trace products to the actual manufacturer or grower of the material, obtain appropriate documentation and ensure that all entities within the supply chain meet their responsibility for food safety and quality. This presentation will provide an overview of known challenges in the supply chain and key regulations in non-EU markets that directly impact supplier qualification. The presentation will also share insights and experience in working with suppliers in China, U.S. and other parts of the world.
